RE: Please support an increase to the cash grant amount of MFIP

Dear Senator Gazelka

My name is _________ and I am a resident of __[city]__, as well as a member of the Joint Religious Legislative Coalition. As a Minnesotan of faith I am called to care for all of my neighbors, particularly the poor and destitute. One modern day way to for the faith community and the State of Minnesota to do this is by increasing the cash grant amount of the Minnesota Family Investment Program.

The cash grant amount of MFIP has not increased at all in Minnesota since 1986, while the cost of living has increased significantly. Low-income earners with children often end up utilizing MFIP as a de fact unemployment program to support their households and make necessary purchases. Additionally, 70% of MFIP recipients are children. Let’s ensure that Minnesotan children have the opportunity to thrive and parents/caregivers have the opportunity to provide by increasing the cash amount of MFIP.

Thank you for your consideration.
