Day on the Hill 2012 Recap
In the week that has lapsed since JRLC's 2012 Day on the Hill, JRLC volunteers, Board, and staff have been revelling in the glow of a successful, powerful, moving Lobby Day.

Over 750 people participated in JRLC's 2012 Day on the Hill. For the second year in a row, every single senate district in the state was represented by at least one registered attendee; the largest district represented was Senate District 64, with 51 attendees! The morning was spent at the St Paul RiverCentre, with issue briefings, a keynote address, and time spent strategizing in district meetings.

The Rev. Alika Galloway, co-pastor at Kwanzaa Community Church in North Minneapolis, gave the keynote address. Her speech was a highlight of the event for many, motivating all of us to bring a strong call for social justice to the state capitol. We will be posting a video of her address to JRLC's YouTube channel in upcoming weeks.

Following our morning session in the RiverCentre, our whole assembly packed up and headed over to the capitol for a rally in the rotunda and meetings with legislators. From advocating for affordable housing in the bonding bill to opposing "Welfare Reform 2.0", from lobbying for an impartial judiciary to supporting the Family Economic Security Act, our meetings with legislators made a difference. Thank you to everyone who attended Day on the Hill, and to all who made phone calls from home, for speaking up with passion and clarity, raising your voice to further social justice in Minnesota!

We have lots of beautiful photos from the event posted to JRLC's Facebook page, artfully captured by Alison Bents Photography.
