Standing Together on Monday
There is powerful imagery in people standing shoulder to shoulder, doing what's right for the common good.
I admit that the image might feel far-flung and utopian. And I'll even give that many different people have many different ideas of what it means to "do right for the common good." But rarely does an event take place where I feel like this is what has actually taken place: people taking a stand, together, for what is good and right and just in the world.
On Monday JRLC advocates participated in one such event: Stand Together Minnesota organized a Day of Action to bear witness the House budget proposed cuts to the Minnesota Family Investment Program.
We came from many backgrounds, with many organizations, but with a common purpose.
At the capitol, we spoke with legislators and wrote letters to the members of the House Health and Human Services Finance Committee. More importantly, we bore witness to the losses that poor and working families face in the proposed cuts to the MFIP program.
Stay tuned for further action updates and events JRLC has planned through the end of session--we need your voice!
