10-10-10 March and Rally for Children

Children Capitol

When: October 10, 2010 or 10-10-10 from 2pm-5pm
Where: Minnesota Capitol in St. Paul
What: Join 10,000 concerned Minnesotans to lift up the issues facing children in our state

On 10-10-10, 10,000 marchers will converge on the state capitol urging citizens to vote with children’s issues in mind and reminding civic leaders and policy makers to make children’s needs a priority. 

JOIN US AND BE ONE AMONG 10,000 VOICES FOR CHILDREN!

There will be a press conference, justice music by locally known groups, a celebrity keynote, and short speeches by civic leaders, clergy and children. Gubernatorial candidates will be invited and given a few minutes to say how they would address one of the 10 focus issues. There will be a voter registration table, a Bridge to Benefits information table and a CDF issue and program table.  Click here for more information.

The event also occurs one week before the National Observance of Children’s Sabbath. However, this year, CDF–MN plans to invite congregations around the state to hold their celebrations instead on 10-10-10 by bringing their members to the march and rally from 2 to 5 p.m.

FREE 2010-2011 iCAN Webinar Series

This year join iCAN for a series of free Webinar Trainings (internet based conference) on key topics through out the program year and the legislative session for our iCAN Advocates.  The webinar tool allows us to reach our entire statewide network because advocates can participate from anywhere they have access to a phone and computer!

  • September Webinar - Tips and Strategies for a Successful Children's Sabbath, with guest speakers Norma Borland, Children's Defense Fund and Diane Olson, Author of Weaving a Just Future for Children

When: Offered twice - September 13th and 14th, 3:30pm - 4:30pm

Why: To learn about successful Children's Sabbath events, advocacy tips, the status of MN children and more!

What: 2010 Children's Sabbath
When: Third weekend in October, October 15-17th, 2010
Where: Congregations around Minnesota, find out how your congregation can get involved

Each year, during the third weekend of October, thousands of synagogues, churches, temples, mosques, and other faith communities celebrate Children's Sabbath. Others choose to observe the event at a different time of year that better suits the life of their congregations.

We are proud that Minnesota is the state with the highest number of congregations celebrating Children's Sabbath, and we thank our Key Advocates for their hard work and commitment to justice for children!

This year celebrate the Children's Sabbath early, by participating in an awesome event at the Capitol!

What: 10,000 March and Rally for Children

The Young Leaders of Children’s Defense Fund – MN in partnership with EveryChildMatters and the Minnesota Children’s Platform are organizing a march and rally to speak out for the children of Minnesota and put their needs on the election campaign agenda as a priority.

The marchers will converge on the state capitol from multiple directions, carrying banners, placards and signs to give 10 specific messages to civic leaders, policy makers, and candidates running in the upcoming state elections.

Ten information tents will address each of 10 focus issues: childhood poverty; early childhood development; child welfare; youth violence; children of immigrant families; K-12 education; healthy development; stable, healthy places; out of school time; and juvenile justice.

Where: We begin the day at the RiverCentre and move to the Capitol in St. Paul

Join us on February 17th, 2011 for our annual Day on the Hill. Check back here for more information to come!

Day on the Hill is our annual lobby day at the state Capitol. Each year hundreds of Minnesotans from across the state join come together to speak with their legislators about issues of poverty, fair taxation, human rights, health care, children, and more. JRLC members from the Islamic, Jewish, Protestant Christian, and Catholic communities join their voices in sending a message to our elected officials that people of faith demand fair and just policy that protects and benefits all people.
